- £2.25 million investment in local bus network benefitting Dundee, Perth, Montrose, Arbroath, Forfar and Kirriemuir
- Wheelchair accessible fleet of 18 new buses fitted with CCTV security and some of the greenest engines in Europe
- Improved Dundee – Perth service operating via The Carse
The state of the art Enviro 300 buses, are fully wheelchair accessible and are fitted with CCTV for added passenger safety. The Euro 4 engines are also classed as some of the greenest engines in Europe.
Six of the buses will operate on the improved service 16 between Dundee and Perth. Offering an increased frequency throughout much of the day, two buses per hour will operate via The Carse during the day and hourly in the evenings. Invergowrie, Longforgan, Inchture and St Madoes will be served every 30 minutes. Ninewells Hospital, Kingoodie, Glendoick, Grange, Errol and Perth Royal Infirmary will be served hourly.
Stagecoach Strathtay service 39 (which operates between Montrose, Arbroath, Dundee and Invergowrie) will benefit from three of the new vehicles, accompanying the three wheelchair accessible double deck vehicles that already operate on the route. From 7th April, the service will therefore offer a fully wheelchair accessible timetable.
The remaining Enviro 300 buses will primarily run on service 20 which operates between Dundee and Forfar / Kirriemuir and will allow the timetable to offer accessible buses on the route for the first time.
Doug Fleming, Managing Director, Stagecoach East Scotland said: “We are very pleased to introduce the latest additions to the network which will undoubtedly improve travel options for the disabled as well as those with buggies. We hope the investment will further encourage modal shift, particularly into Dundee where congestion and parking can be a real problem for commuters. Convincing people to switch to the bus, when they can, helps to alleviate these problems and by offering accessible new buses and a range of value for money megarider tickets, we hope local residents will make good use of the improvements.”
A new range of Stagecoach megarider tickets are now available to purchase exclusively online. Monthly, 13 week and annual megarider tickets offer even greater savings than the weekly tickets from your driver and can be purchased from www.stagecoachbus.com/shop
