Stagecoach Strathtay have announced today that with effect from Monday 14th May 2007, there will be a revision of fares in the area, with the introduction of several megarider and dayrider travel options.
Megarider tickets offer 7 days’ unlimited travel on services within set boundaries and have proven to be extremely popular money saving travel options for many Stagecoach bus users in other areas. To develop the Stagecoach brand within the Strathtay area, Stagecoach will introduce a range of megarider and dayrider tickets in Montrose, Forfar and Brechin.
The Forfar megarider will be priced at £5 and the megarider+ (priced at £9) will also cover Kirriemuir, Froickheim, Finavon, Netherton, Letham, Gallowfauld, Glamis. Town megarider tickets will also be introduced in Brechin and Montrose, both priced at £5. Dayrider tickets (which offer one days’ unlimited travel within the area) will be launched in Forfar, Brechin and Montrose – all priced at £1.50.
The Arbroath megarider and dayrider tickets, which were introduced in August last year, will continue to be priced at £5 and £1.50.
The increase in single fares varies but some popular examples include, Timergreens to Arbroath bus station will increase by 5p from 80p to 85p, Dundee city centre to Ninewells will increase from £1.15 to £1.20 and Dundee to Forfar will increase from £2.55 to £2.70.
The changes will be introduced to offset cost increases. Steve Walker, Operations Director for Stagecoach East Scotland, said: “It is unfortunate that Stagecoach Strathtay have had to revise some fares. We hope that by introducing the megarider and dayrider tickets, we do not pass the increases on to our regular customers. The introduction of the Megarider tickets is good news for frequent travellers and offer great value for money.
