4 December 2007

The Biggleswade & District Bus Association is non-profit making voluntary association run by parents for parents whose children attend Bedford School, Bedford High School, Bedford Modern School, Dame Alice Harpur School, Rushmoor and St Andrew’s .  The Association currently operates three dedicated bus routes serviced by Stagecoach buses.

The Three Bus Routes
855- Potton via Gamlingay & Sandy to Bedford
865 - Wrestlingworth via Biggleswade & Cople to Bedford
875 - Huntingdon via Kimbolton & Wyboston to Bedford

Timetables with stops are detailed at the end of this information sheet

Bus Pass Costs and the Additional Services it provides
This is a non-profit making parents association so the cost of the bus pass is determined by the number of pupils that use the service divided by the number of school days.  Therefore the more pupils that use each bus, the cheaper the bus pass.  Current high uptake is enabling the Association to offer bus passes at particularly competitive rates.  However, the price also includes a number of other important benefits:-

1. The pass can be used on other buses to and from Bedford to bus stops close to the boarding points, especially useful for pupils attending after-school activities and during periods of exam leave.
2. The pass can also be used at half term holidays
3. The pass can also be used at weekends.

Payment & Membership
1. Payment for the bus pass is a term in advance
2. A £75 deposit is needed to secure a place on the bus (returnable if a term’s notice is given)
3. A non-refundable £2 family subscription to join the Association

 Additional Benefit
1. The Association provides a dedicated bus with a designated driver for each bus route
2. The Association is able to consider additional boarding points on the routes providing these boarding points are both practical and safe
3. The timetable is based on school start of day and end of day times
4. Highly utilised school buses reduce congestion and pollution in the Town Centre, reduce congestion at the school entrances and improve safety
5. Seating at all times,  the Association carefully regulates the number of passes so the seating capacity of the bus is not exceeded
6. Reduced stress, time and worry in getting your children to and from school each day

Guest Bus Passes
Providing there are available seats on the bus, pupils can bring friends home from school with a Temporary Guest Bus Pass, if this is applied for in advance with the payment of a small fee.  As the Association strives to achieve high passenger utilisation of the buses the numbers of Guest Passes available are likely to be limited and so must be applied for in advance and in writing.  Children will not be allowed on the bus without showing a valid permanent or temporary pass.
