Stagecoach takes operator prize at the UK Bus Awards
8 November 2007

Stagecoach in Cambridge has been named Shire Operator of the Year, beating last year's winner Stagecoach West Scotland. Cambridge has doubled the number of customers travelling on its 'Citi' network since its introduction in November 2001.

The company has invested over £8million on new vehicles - the latest being 21 brand new, environmentally friendly buses for Park & Ride.

The judges commented, "Stagecoach in Cambridge has seen significant growth over a sustained period. Significant modal shift has been achieved. Further expansion through Kickstart and improved operational performance means the company is a strong performer.

The growth in passengers during the last five years has been at a comparatively small cost to the public purse. In turn this has brought improved profitability for Stagecoach in Cambridge leading to substantial ongoing investment. There has been a significant change in the passenger profile, and the better product has attracted car users. Future developments in the city are providing an opportunity for further substantial growth for the benefit of all.

The judges felt that this was one of the best examples of partnership in practice, showing just what can be achieved by a progressive bus company and an enlightened local authority working together."

Managing Director Andy Campbell said, "The success is a reward for all the staff who deliver a high level of customer service on a daily basis. We have nearly 400 people who all play a part in ensuring we provide the best possible service."
