The Department for Transport (DfT) has chosen Darlington as one of only three national sustainable travel pilot projects.  This means that Darlington’s Town on the Move initiative is to be funded by £3.24 million from the DfT over the next four years.

To kick-start the whole initiative the Town on the Move reference group and Darlington Borough Council held a local travel summit on 15 and 16 March 2005.

A variety of stakeholders attended the event, from local councillors, bus operators, police officials, local business leaders and a number of residents.

This partnership approach is key to the whole initiative.  Stagecoach will be heavily involved in this campaign to help shape the future of travel in Darlington.
