The Malt Whisky Trail, through Speyside, is the world’s only malt whisky trail. Along this famous trail, you will find more than half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries, each one with its own traditions, lore and recipes for everything from malting the barley to the height and size of its stills.
Each distillery has its own warm welcome for visitors, where you will be able to experience the sight, smell, taste and magic of each distilleries whisky.
Along the way, visitors can take in the picturesque lush countryside of Speyside and all it has to offer.
On the trail visitors can visit the historic distillery of Dallas Dhu, which was built back in 1898 to produce malt whisky for the Glasgow firm Wright and Greig’s popular ‘Roderick Dhu’ blend. Nowadays visitors to the distillery will be able to see and hear how whisky was made, as well as try a sample dram.
The famous Glen Fiddich distillery at Craigellachie, which sits in the heart of the Highlands, and takes its name from the Gaelic for ‘Valley of the Deer’ is also easily accessed on the trail and is well worth a visit.
Little has changed since 1886, when William Grant and his nine children first built the distillery of Glenfiddich. The same silent warehouses and steamy mash rooms produce the world’s favourite single malt Scotch whisky.
