HULL & COTTINGHAM FARES REVISION SUNDAY 4th May 2008
Stagecoach in Hull has announced its intention to revise some fares in the Hull & Cottingham area from Sunday 4th May 2008.
The revision of single fares is the first revision since May last year, and is a result of the large increase in the cost of fuel over the last twelve months as well as other operational cost increases. Such increases could have resulted in a larger scale revision, however the success of last years introduction of the simplified “Farezones” has reduced the need to cover the increase in operating costs with a full fares revision. We have therefore decided to revise just two of the single ticket prices. These will be as follows:
CITY CENTRE INNER ZONE – All journeys within this Zone will increase from 90p to £1
GREATER HULL OUTER ZONE - All journeys within this Zone will increase from £1 to £1.10.
Journeys between the two Farezones will remain at £1.20
It is important to note that many fares in the Outer Zone prior to the simplification last year, used to be £1.15, and therefore the new fare of £1.10 is still cheaper than it was, even in 2006.
No other fares are affected, which leaves the maximum fare payable within Hull and Cottingham just £1.20, and the short hop fare at just 80p. It also means that the Megarider £8 weekly ticket, Flexirider £8.50 Ten journey ticket at the Dayrider at £2.70 become even better value.
It is unfortunate that these increase have had to be implemented, but the huge increases in the cost of fuel cannot be absorbed continuously. However with continued growth in patronage through commercial ventures has helped to keep the size and frequency of any increase in single fares down to a minimum,
