Bus Drivers

Want to get "on the buses"?

Keeping our buses on the road involves people working as part of our dedicated, versatile team. There are many different roles involved including work in administration and IT, although the majority of our staff are drivers, engineering and cleaning staff.

Could you drive for us?...

If you’re in good health and aged 21 or over, have a full car licence and a good driving record then you should consider the personal qualities you have to offer, you could be what we’re looking for in a driver.

Driving a bus involves more than just being a good driver. You will be in direct contact with our customers all day, and that means you must appear presentable and be courteous and polite. You are the public face of Stagecoach Lincolnshire and therefore must be the type of person who likes to make a good impression. Experience in any aspect of retailing or customer service will help.

You will be responsible for the cash handling aspect of running the service using an electronic ticket machine so you need to be trustworthy and reasonably good at arithmetic.

Training to drive a bus...

To drive a bus you need to hold a Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) licence! Haven’t got one? Don’t panic! Our team of dedicated driving instructors will give you 2 to 3 weeks intensive training, getting you ready for the PCV driving test. If you’re successful, you’ll have the skills to demonstrate that you are competent to handle a large heavy vehicle. And we’ll pay you for doing this!

Customer care...

Although a wide cross section of people use our buses we do carry large numbers of older, less able people and schoolchildren. As a driver you must be able to take responsibility for the care of these more vulnerable customers and ensure that their journey is pleasant and safe. Our Customer Care training will give you the skills and confidence to deal with all types of people who may need extra help.

Working hours...

Most of our work is focused between the core working hours of 7am and 7pm on a shift basis, although some duties will involve early mornings, late evenings and Sunday. You will be required to work either 4 or 5 days out of 7, with 2 or 3 days off. Although we’ll need you to work on Saturdays and Sundays, there are regular weekends off including occasional long weekend breaks.

Benefits...

Job Security Government policy is encouraging people to use public transport, leading to a growing demand so there’ll always be a need for bus drivers.
