Using the Bus
Fares, Passes and Oyster

The fares charged on our bus services are set by Transport for London. There is a flat fare of £2 on nearly all London bus routes which can be reduced to £1 if you purchase an Oyster card.

On all routes in central London and articulated bus routes, such as the 25 and 453, you have to purchase your ticket from a roadside ticket machine prior to boarding.  Cash fares are not taken on the bus.

Monthly & Annual Bus Passes and Travelcards can only be obtained on Oyster Cards. Daily and weekly tickets can still be purchased on paper stock. Pay-as-you-go is available on Oyster Cards for a one off £3 deposit and allows you to travel for as little as £1 instead of £2 on all your bus journeys throughout London. Click here for more details

Bus User's Guide

Using an East London or Selkent bus could not be easier.

First of all decide on what bus you need. You can then call London Travel Information on 020 7222 1234 day or night, and staff will be able to assist with planning your journey.  Alternatively, you can visit www.tfl.gov.uk/journeyplanner.

As the bus approaches you will be able to see the route number and destination on the front.  If this is your bus then simply signal for the driver to stop, wait until the bus is stationary and the doors are fully opened and step on board.

As you board the bus either show your pass to the driver, touch your Oyster card on the reader or pay your cash fare (except in central London and on routes 25 and 453 where you must purchase a ticket from a roadside ticket machine prior to boarding).

Many of our buses have designated areas where buggies and shopping trolleys can be safely parked. Please feel free to use the fold-down seats so that you can sit next to your buggy.  All of our buses are wheelchair accessible. Once on board sit back and enjoy the journey.

When you want to get off, press the bell once. For your safety we recommend you remain seated until the bus has arrived at the stop.

Sometimes the bus back home leaves from a different bus stop. Please ask the driver if you are unsure where the bus leaves for your journey home.
