The Hideaway Youth project is funded by the Football Foundation to work with young people in the Moss Side area and uses football as a tool to increase community cohesion. The project has been worked up with extensive consultation with the Local Football Partnership and the Manchester Football Association.
The young men, aged between 17 and 21, will battle it out against six opposing international teams in the tournament organised by the International Sport and Leisure.
Mark Threapleton, managing director of Stagecoach Manchester comments: “We are delighted to be supporting a fantastic initiative and share the vision that football plays an important part in improving the lives of young men in inner city areas. We hope that the project will strengthen community cohesion, as well as giving these young men hope for the future. We wish the team a fantastic trip to Spain and all the best in the tournament – let’s hope they come back with some silverware!
"Pete Thomason, young men’s project worker at the Hideaway Youth project, said: “Many thanks to Stagecoach for supporting this initiative, this will help bring young people together strengthening community spirit alongside helping them to experience something they will enjoy and remember for the rest of their lives. This is not just about football, this is about youth work and young people working together as one team.”
