Over the course of the last six months, 164,543 more tickets were purchased than during the same period in 2007, which highlights the growing appeal of public transport in the region.
The VIP ticket was created to replace the 929 ticket and to offer under 19s in full time education, the opportunity to travel simply, affordably and independently. The 929 ticket primarily catered for the under 16s market, but we wanted to make a travel pass for the entire youth market and simplify its offering.
Speaking of the increase, John Conroy, Managing Director, Stagecoach North East says: "We had recognised the potential growth in the youth market and we were keen to enhance our offering to demonstrate the benefits of public transport and bus travel in particular. That the ticket has proved so successful is testament to our commitment to taking on board feedback from our customers and evolving to meet their requirements."
