Due to road closures associated with the Junior Great North Run and The Great North Run, there will be temporary routes and timetables on the Newcastle/ Gateshead Quaylink services.
On Thursday 2 October and Friday 3 October, South Shore Road will be closed in Gateshead. As a consequence, QuayLink Service Q1 will not be able to serve Hillgate Quays, The Baltic, Mill Road or Gateshead College. Buses will instead operate "direct" along Cannon Street (to access Sage), and then operate via Oakwellgate to Gateshead town centre.
On Saturday 4 October, to help transport the anticipated crowds to and from the Junior Great North Run, QuayLink buses will operate more frequently between 0900 - 1100 (operating approximately every 15 minutes). In addition, due to road closures which are necessary to facilitate the safe running of the Junior Great North Run, until approximately 1800, Service Q1 will only be able to operate between Gateshead Interchange and the Baltic (using a temporary stop on South Shore Road east): Service Q1 will therefore not be able to run between Central Station and Baltic Square. After 1800, due to South Shore Road's continuing closure, QuayLink Q1 will once again divert via the same route as operated on Thursday 2 October.
Due to road closures on the Newcastle side until approximately 1800, Service Q2 will not be able to serve Dean Street, Guildhall or the Quayside bus link. Service Q2 will instead operate non-stop between Theatre Royal (Grey Street outbound, Market Street inbound) and Sandgate. Buses will continue to serve Ouseburn Valley and St.Peter's Basin, and once roads are reopened will be able to return to normal routes.
On Sunday 5 October, due to the closure of East Gateshead Highway (between first bus and approximately 1200), Service Q1 will not be able to serve Gateshead Interchange or Gateshead High Street. During these times, Service Q1 buses will run between The Sage Gateshead and Central Station only. Furthermore, South Shore Road may not be accessible until 0900. If this is the case, Service Q1 will again be required to operate direct via Cannon Street to/from Sage (omitting Hillgate Quays, The Baltic, Mill Road and Gateshead College, as well as the town centre).
However, Service Q2 will be operate to its normal route and times.
Service X47 will not be able to observe its stop at Barras Bridge, and Services X87/X88 will not be able to observe their stops on Claremont Road (beside University) or at Barras Bridge. Customers for these services are advised to use the main stops in the City Centre (Service X87/X88 at Haymarket Bus Station, and Service X47 on Blackett Street).
