Disruption to QuayLink Services Q1 and Q2 during the Evolution Festival (25 – 26 May 2008)
29 April 2008

In order to ensure the safe running of the Evolution Festival, there will be a number of road closures on Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside. These will affect QuayLink Services Q1 and Q2.

On Sunday 25 May 2008, Service Q1 will not be able to serve South Shore Road. Because of this, Service Q1 from Newcastle will operate via Swing Bridge, The Sage Gateshead, Oakwellgate, Hawks Road, Mill Road, South Shore Road East (observing a temporary stop to the east of Baltic), Deptford Road, Hawks Road, High Street, Jackson Street, Gateshead Metro. Service Q1 from Gateshead will return via Gateshead Metro, Jackson Street, High Street, Quaysgate, then via Hawks Road, Mill Road, South Shore Road East (observing a temporary stop to the east of Baltic), Deptford Road, Hawks Road, Oakwellgate, The Sage Gateshead, Swing Bridge, Guildhall, Dean Street and then via normal route. PLEASE NOTE THAT SERVICE Q1 WILL OPERATE VIA THE SAGE GATESHEAD "OUT OF SEQUENCE", AND SERVICE Q1 BUSES TO BOTH NEWCASTLE AND GATESHEAD WILL TRAVERSE SOUTH SHORE ROAD LOOP IN A CLOCKWISE DIRECTION  - PLEASE CHECK THE DESTINATION OF THE BUS BEFORE BOARDING.

On Monday 26 May 2008, Service Q1 will again not be able to serve South Shore Road – it will operate to the same arrangements of 25 May 2008 (above).

In addition, on Monday 26 May 2008, Newcastle Quayside will be closed between Wesley Square and Spillars Mill. As a consequence of this, Service Q2 will need to divert from St.Peters Basin via Glasshouse Street, Walker Road, Glasshouse Bridge, City Road, Sandgate, Law Courts and Quayside. As a consequence, it will temporarily not be able to serve its inbound stops at Low Level Bridge, Mariners Wharf, Gateshead Millennium Bridge or at Wesley Square. In lieu of this, Service Q2 will observe all bus stops along the alternative line of route (at Walker Road, Glasshouse Bridge, City Road, Sandgate and opposite Law Courts. Service Q2 towards St.Peters Basin will continue to operate via its normal route.

Because of the additional mileage that will need to be operated, some journeys may be slightly delayed. Stagecoach apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, which is due to circumstances beyond our control.
