A spokesperson for Nexus, said: “New national passes, giving pensioners and disabled passengers free travel anywhere in England, became available in April this year.
“Whilst most concessionaries throughout the region have the new passes – we know some people are showing the old green passes when boarding buses, and they won’t be able to do this after 30 September 2008.
“If you have the new white national pass, that’s the one to use from now on.”
People who have not received the new pass – which is white with a red rose in the top left corner and contains a small local authority (or Nexus) logo - should contact their local council office before the end of September.
Passengers have been permitted to use their old passes for travel up to 30 September to ensure a smooth transition to the new cards. But that Government-imposed changeover period is nearly at an end and it is essential that concessionaires carry and use the new free national pass in future.
