Bus operator Stagecoach was one of organisations that supported the Marie Curie Cancer Care Ladies Driving Challenge held at Dunsfold airfield. Over 80 women had the opportunity to drive a range of vehicles including buses, fire engines and articulated lorries.
A single and double deck bus were provided by Stagecoach. Driving Instructor Peter Austin and Emma Butterfield, a driver from the Aldershot depot, gave all the lady drivers the opportunity to drive the vehicles on the runways frequently used to film BBC 2’s Top Gear programme.
Ros Hooper, Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care said that thanks to the support of everyone involved, the day was a great success. “Over £13,000 has been raised through sponsorship to help fund specially trained nurses that provide free nursing care to cancer patients and those with other terminal illnesses in their own homes,” said Ros Hooper. “I would like to thank everyone involved who made the ladies driving challenge such a success.”
