A 1964 “Queen Mary” Leyland PD3 double deck bus that has been owned by Stagecoach since 1989 has had an internal refit completed and is restored true to how it would have looked when first in service with Southdown Motor Services Ltd.
Chichester depot based Coach Builders Dean Jackson and Graham Kent undertook the restoration of the upholstery, flooring and paintwork 7 months ago – working the project in between the day to day maintenance of the company’s modern fleet.
Graham Kent, who served his Apprenticeship with Southdown Motor Services Ltd and has 19 years experience in the company, said that after purchasing genuine materials from sources across the UK, he and Dean Jackson were delighted to see the “Queen Mary” back on the road.
“We are delighted with the refurbishment and the bus will now be available to hire for special events, weddings and will be seen at most of the major bus rallies,” said Graham Kent.
