On Sunday 5 October 2008, due to temporary road closures associated with the Great North Run, local Stagecoach buses within South Shields will be temporarily revised.

By special demand, additional Services 552 and 553 will also operate. These services link New Crown Hotel (which is close to the finish line) to Newcastle, Heworth and South Shields Ferry. For more details on these special services, please see timetables below:

Adult fares on Services 552, 553:
Adult single fare between New Crown and Newcastle is £2.70.
Adult single fare between New Crown and South Shields Market is £1.00.
Adult single fare between New Crown and Heworth is £2.00.
Adult Transfare between New Crown and Newcastle is £3.10.

Child fares on Services 552, 553: 
Upon the production of a valid Under 16 Card, the child single fare between New Crown and Newcastle, South Shields Market or Heworth is 50p.
Upon the production of a valid Under 16 Card, a "Nexus U16 Dayticket" can be purchased for £1.00.
If a valid Under 16 Card cannot be produced, the child single fare between New Crown and Newcastle, South Shields Market or Heworth is 70p.
The child Transfare between New Crown and Newcastle is 80p.

Within South Shields, local bus services will temporarily be revised as follows:

Service 1/2
After 0900, journeys will divert between Horsley Hill and Boldon Lane via Marsden Road, Sunderland Rd, Moor Lane and Harton Lane.

Service 3
All journeys are cancelled until 1629 from Market. Buses then operate normal Sunday evening service.

Service 4
All journeys are cancelled until 1613 from Market. Buses then operate normal Sunday evening service.

Service 7
Normal route and times from Market to King George Road. Buses then divert via Moor Lane, Sunderland Road and Marsden Road to Horsley Hill Square, to rejoin normal route and times to South Shields Market. Normal service recommences after the Great North Run, with the 1639 departure from Market.

Service 8
Normal route and times from Market to Horsley Hill Square. Buses then divert via Marsden Road and Sunderland Road to Mortimer Road to rejoin normal route and times to South Shields Market. Normal service recommences after the Great North Run, with the 1626 departure from Market.

Service 10
All journeys are cancelled until 1720 from Market. Buses then operate normal Sunday evening service.

Service 11
All journeys are cancelled until 1737 from Low Simonside. Buses then operate normal Sunday evening service.

Service 12
The 0826 from Mile End Road and 0853 from Watson Avenue operate as normal. Then from 0856 buses operate normal route from Mile End Road to Harton Lane/Temple Park Road Roundabout then divert via Harton Lane, Sunderland Road, Marsden Road to Horsley Hill Square. There is no daytime service between Temple Park, The Lonnen and Watson Avenue. From 0923 buses towards Mile End Road commence from Horsley Hill Square, and operate via Marsden Road, Sunderland Road, Harton Lane and then via normal route and times. Normal service recommences after the Great North Run, with the 1626 departure from Mile End Road and the 1653 from Watson Avenue.

Service 17
All journeys are cancelled until 1639 from Market and 1657 from Whiteleas Shops. Buses then operate normal Sunday evening service.

Service 18
Normal Sunday timetable but buses operate direct along (and terminating in) Winskell Road. Buses return via normal route from Winskell Road. There is no daytime service between Simonside and Brockley Whins. Normal service recommences after the Great North Run, with the 1549 departure from Market and 1613 departure from Brockley Whins.

Service E1 South Shields to Sunderland
The 0816 journey from Market operates as normal. Then daytime service is withdrawn between South Shields and Marsden Grotto. Service E1 continues to operate at normal times between Lizard Lane turning circle and Sunderland, but substituting Lizard Lane for the Marsden Grotto timing point and running via Lizard Lane and Kitchener Rd to pick up the normal route at Whitburn. Normal service and full route recommences after the Great North Run with the 1744 departure from Market.

Service E1 Sunderland to South Shields
Daytime service is withdrawn between Marsden Grotto and South Shields. Service E1 operates at normal times between Sunderland and Lizard Lane turning circle, substituting Lizard Lane for the Marsden Grotto timing point and running via Kitchener Rd and Lizard Lane from the normal route at Whitburn. Normal service recommences after the Great North Run with the 1719 departure from Sunderland Interchange

Service E2 South Shields to Sunderland
The 0647 journey from Chichester and the 0841 from Market journeys operate as normal.  Then daytime buses on service E2 are withdrawn between South Shields and Lizard Lane. Service E2 operates at normal times between Lizard Lane and Sunderland. Normal Service E2 recommences after the Great North Run, with the 1603 departure from Market.

Service E2 Sunderland to South Shields
The 0729 and 0859 journeys from Sunderland Interchange operate as normal. Then daytime service E2 journeys are withdrawn between Lizard Lane and South Shields. Service E2 operates at normal times between Sunderland and Lizard Lane. Normal Service E2 recommences after the Great North Run, with the 1557 departure from Sunderland Interchange.

Service E6 South Shields to Sunderland
The 0746, 0816, 0846 journeys from Market operate as normal. The 0916 journey from Market is cancelled, as are all daytime buses between South Shields and Lizard Lane. Service E6 operates normal times between Lizard Lane and Sunderland. Normal Service E6 recommences after the Great North Run, with the 1624 departure from Market.

Service E6 Sunderland to South Shields
The 0732, 0802, 0832, 0902 journeys operate as normal. The 0932 journey from Marsden Inn is cancelled, as are all daytime buses between Lizard Lane and South Shields. Service E6 operates normal times between Sunderland and Lizard Lane. Normal Service E6 recommences after the Great North Run, with the 1607 departure from Sunderland Interchange.
