With the assistance of Nexus and the financial support of South Tyneside Council, City-sightseeing North East are delighted to be operating the South Tyneside Tourist Bus during the 2008 School Summer Holidays - and new for this year, this bus will be an open top vehicle too! The unique hourly service handily links all the major tourist attractions of South Tyneside, providing loads of opportunities for great family days out.

Overlooking the River Tyne, The Customs House is a stunning theatre, cinema and art gallery. Constructed in the 1860's and beautifully renovated a few years ago, the Customs House is the focus of artistic and cultural life for the borough. The main theatre at the Customs House comfortably accommodates over 400 people, and contains all the features that you’d expect from a modern, well-equipped theatre – features such as Dolby surround sound, big screens and raked seating. A wide diversity of art forms by internationally renowned artists are regularly on display at the gallery.

This Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site stands guard at the mouth of the River Tyne, controlling Britain’s main port of entry for the Roman Empire's northern frontier. Originally a garrison, Arbeia developed into the military supply base for all the forts along Hadrian's Wall. Today, Arbeia’s reconstructed buildings present a fascinating insight into what life was like in Roman Britain. This important archaeological site is one of the few places in Britain where visitors can see brought-to-life Roman buildings – Simply unmissable!

When it was opened in 1871, Souter Point was the most advanced lighthouse in the world. These days, it provides many hours of exploration for curious minds, starting in the Engine Room. Witness the family living quarters in the Victorian Keepers Cottage, and climb the 76 steps to the top of the Lighthouse tower and enjoy wide views of the coastline – loads to do!
