Changes to Tyne and Wear Child Concessionary Scheme from Monday 1 September 2008
15 August 2008
Stagecoach, working in partnership with Nexus and other public transport providers, are pleased to announce that there will be changes to the Child Concessionary Scheme within Tyne and Wear from Monday 1 September 2008.
The main changes are as follows:
- The Child Concessionary fare will rise from 40p to 50p. This new 50p Child Concessionary single fare will be available all day, every day (including at weekends), upon the production of a valid Nexus Under 16 Card.
- The 50p Child Concessionary Transfare will be withdrawn. However, please note that the Child Commercial Transfare (currently 80p on Stagecoach buses) continues to be available.
- A new “£1 U16 Day Ticket” is introduced. This new ticket is valid on all public transport (buses, Metro, rail and ferry) within Tyne and Wear, regardless of operator. There are no time restrictions with this ticket. Please note that a Nexus Under 16 Card must be shown in order to obtain this concession, and every time it is used – if a valid Under 16 Card cannot be shown, then the £1 U16 Day Ticket cannot be purchased or used.
- All children must show a valid “Under 16 Card” for the journey in question. If they cannot, a 70p single or 80p Transfare ticket will be charged. Please click here to download a Nexus Under 16 Card application form.
- Please note that all VIP tickets (£2 for 1 day, £7 for 7 days, £28 for 28 days) continue unchanged - and they're perfect if you're staying on at school or going to sixth form. Please click here for more details of VIP tickets.
