As part of Stagecoach Supertrams ongoing commitment to provide a safe and comfortable environment to all passengers, we are pleased to announce that all trams are now fitted with CCTV cameras.
The eight cameras, which cover not only the tram interior but also offers a view from both front and rear cab, gives the ability to obtain high quality, digital images which can be downloaded as required. The cameras have already been used for the prevention and detection of crime and for the investigation of incidents and accidents involving the tram.
The installation of these CCTV cameras comes in a year when a number of major improvements will be noticeable on trams. Some of these improvements are already in place. You will have noticed that all vehicles now have automated P.A. systems. One tram, which also has electronic destination blinds on trial, uses satellite navigation technology to operate the trams ‘Next Stop’ announcements and displays.
Should the trials of these improvements prove to be successful, early indications are that they are, all of the fleet will be updated.
There will be a number of other major improvements over the coming months – watch this space for more details.
