Stagecoach invest £5m in growing Glasgow express routes
10 September 2007

The X76 which operates from Cumnock and Kilmarnock to Glasgow has benefited from 5 new Plaxton Profile Coaches and one Neoman Skyliner Double Decker Coach. The coaches are fully accessible and able to carry wheel chair passengers opening up bus travel to Glasgow to those people previously unable to travel.

The route which was first established in 1995 carries 700,000 passengers per year and operates 775,000 miles.   The X76 has benefited over the last couple of years with increased frequencies and Sunday services resulting in an 8.3% average passenger growth year on year.

The X77 operating between Ayr and Glasgow has gone upmarket with 13 luxury double decker Neoman Skyliner coaches.  The coaches are amongst the biggest and most modern in the country - featuring air conditioning, more comfortable seats, better legroom and footrests – and can carry up to 89 passengers.

The X77 also established in 1995 carries 690,000 passengers and operates 870,000 miles per year.  The route has achieved 4.5% passenger growth year on year due to increased frequencies - the service has gone initially from hourly to now every 10 minutes at peak times and then every 30 minutes throughout the day.  Additional morning and evening peak services are being added to the route from Monday 10th September and some services will then operate via Fenwick.

New 4 weekly megarider tickets are now available on the services offering unlimited travel and great savings for regular travellers and the vehicles have also been given a distinctive new livery.

Sam Greer, Managing Director said:  “We are committed to focusing on investment, innovation and effective marketing to drive further growth and encourage more people to switch to bus travel.

Our express network uses state of the art vehicles, regular services and value tickets and is an attractive alternative to the car."
