Coronavirus Update Close

In line with the latest government guidance, we've put in place further measures in England to help customers practice social distancing. This includes limiting the available seats on buses.

Face coverings are compulsory when using public transport in England and Scotland. In Wales you must wear a 3 layer face covering on public transport and put it on before travelling unless you are exempt. It is also now compulsory to wear face coverings when using indoor public transport hubs in England only.

The safety of our customers and employees is our priority, so please avoid busy times, use contactless payment and take your litter with you. For up to date information see our Coronavirus page

Contactless payments now available on all Stagecoach East Midland Services

22 May 2018

  • Passengers can now pay for bus journeys using contactless credit or debit cards, Apple Pay or Google pay
  • Faster boarding, secure payments, no cash required
  • Events to showcase benefits of contactless payment held across the East Midlands

Bus customers across the East Midlands are set to benefit from faster boarding thanks to the roll out of contactless technology.

The new contactless payment system has been installed in over 480 Stagecoach East Midland buses, speeding up boarding times and taking away the need for customers to carry and pay with cash.

Events were held in Mansfield, Lincoln, Scunthorpe, Hull, Worksop and Grimsby last week to promote the new initiative and give people the chance to find out more, with Stagecoach staff on hand to answer questions.

Managing Director, Michelle Hargreaves said: “There are more cars on the road, and congestion is a major problem in so many areas. That’s why we are working harder than ever to make bus travel the best alternative to using the car.

“We have invested over £5 million in brand new environmentally friendly buses and ticket machine technology since November last year. The contactless payment system will help speed up journey times and make travelling by bus so much easier for our customers.”

She added: “The new technology demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible service for passengers and works brilliantly with the Stagecoach app, which allows passengers to track buses in real-time.”

The contactless payment system allows customers to pay with their debit or credit card, or Apple and Google pay, securely and quickly at the start of the journey.

Improving the customer experience remains a priority for Stagecoach East Midlands. The company recently received some of the highest customer satisfaction results for their services across Nottingham, Gainsborough, Worksop, Mansfield and Newark in the annual Transport Focus Passenger Satisfaction survey. With a 94% overall satisfaction rating, a 4% increase from last year, the company received one of the highest scores across all bus services in the UK.
