It is also now compulsory to wear face coverings when using indoor public transport hubs in England only.

New journey options on popular coach route

06 Nov 2014

Stagecoach have announced plans for a popular express coach service to extend its route to run between Perth and Dundee.

The company have published a new timetable for the current Coastrider X7 route, which operates between Aberdeen and Dundee, which will see the route extend to Perth every day.

The new timetable will come into effect on 24th November and will provide an hourly link on Mondays to Saturdays.  The Sunday service between Aberdeen and Dundee also runs every hour, extending every 2 hours to Perth.

The Coastrider X7 already operates hourly every day, but will operate to/from Perth on each journey from 24th November.  The route will also serve Royal Victoria and Ninewells Hospitals in Dundee and Perth Royal Infirmary, providing a fast and frequent link between the key hospital sites.

The extended route will mean new public transport links will be possible, particularly connecting Dundee and Angus residents with PRI and Perth residents to the Dundee hospital sites.  New stopping points will also be added to the route at Dundee University and Dundee and Angus College Gardyne Campus.

Stagecoach already operate a route between PRI and Ninewells hospital, which will be directly replaced by the X7.  Hospital Link 333 operates between the two sites hourly Mondays to Fridays but does not run at the weekends or in the evenings, so the new frequency on the X7 will improve the current level of service and the 333 will be withdrawn from 22nd November.

Speaking about the new route, Managing Director Andrew Jarvis said: "The Coastrider X7 route has been very popular since its launch in 2011 and we've added extra journeys as the route has grown over the years.  The extension of the route will provide great new links for so many people travelling to college and university, city centres, hospitals sites and will of course continue to provide relaxing journeys along our beautiful coastline."

Stagecoach have also announced the investment of over £2.4m in a fleet of 8 brand new luxury coaches for the Coastrider X7 route, which will begin operating on the 24th November.

Mr Jarvis continued: "Our new vehicles are the latest in luxury coach travel and feature leather reclining seats, air conditioning, free wifi, on-board charge points, an on-board toilet and bike racks with space for 5 bikes."

The larger coaches will also offer additional capacity compared to the current coaches operating on the route.

Stagecoach will be launching the new vehicles in Dundee on Murraygate outside the Wellgate entrance on 18th November from 11am until 4pm.  The company is welcoming passengers to come and experience the vehicles for themselves and pick up some freebies and route information.
