The St Andrews Open Top Tour has returned this year, running from the 26th June until the 7th September 2015.
Operated by a low floor vehicle, the bus was given a 'makeover' last year with distinctive branding featuring the iconic St Andrews Cross and local attractions, while also highlighting the achievements of the tour driver and organiser, Mike Reid who was awarded a B.E.M in 2013. A commentary is provided by Mike throughout the tour, to help customers take in the area's history. As well as the distinctive branding, the vehicle also features waterproof seats and is fully wheelchair and buggy accessible.
New to the tour this year, a free treasure hunt is available for kids to enjoy on the journey, with treasure to be found at the end. Once the hunt has been completed, treasure and a certificate can be collected from St Andrews bus station or the Tourist Information Centre.
St Andrews has much to offer tourists and the open top gives visitors the chance to see the historical architectural sights of the town from the comfort of the tour bus. Passengers are free to hop on and hop off at any of the timetabled stops and visit the many attractions en route before returning to the tour on a later journey. An additional stop on Broomfaulds
Avenue has been added to the timetable to cater for the new Premier Inn Hotel. Other stops include the Golf Museum, St Andrews Cathedral and the Botanic Gardens.
Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director, Stagecoach East Scotland said: "We are pleased to welcome the return of the St Andrews Open Top Tour along with our driver, Mike Reid who retired in September 2014. By introducing the treasure hunt to this year's tour, we wanted to add a little extra excitement for families on board and keep the kids interested in the many attractions St Andrews has to offer!"
The St Andrews Open Top service may be varied, diverted or cancelled due to traffic regulation orders and police direction during the Open Championship (Sunday 12th - Monday 20th July inclusive).
