Success for Stagecoach at Scottish Transport Awards

  • East Scotland wins Best Bus Service Award

Stagecoach has been recognised with a top honour at the 2015 Scottish Transport Awards.

The transport group’s East Scotland business was awarded the Best Bus Service accolade at the 13th annual event held in Glasgow last night (Thursday 18 June) after impressing judges with its Coastrider X7 route which operates along the east coast of Scotland.

Stagecoach launched the X7 Coastrider route in 2011, providing a vital link between Dundee and Aberdeen via Arbroath, Montrose and Stonehaven. Services quickly proved popular and Stagecoach has since invested heavily in a further new fleet of luxury vehicles for the route, featuring free wi-fi, leather reclining seats, air conditioning and a toilet.

In 2012 the company launched a night service and improved frequency, and last year the route was extended through to Perth along with further fleet investment. The Coastrider X7 route now carries 12,000 customers each week and has seen a 36% rise in passenger numbers over the past year.

Stagecoach East Scotland Managing Director Andrew Jarvis said: “This award is a real credit to the hard work of our employees who deliver these services to our customers all year round.

“Thousands of people a week rely on the Coastrider X7 services as an affordable and reliable transport solution and, by investing in new vehicles, with free wi-fi, and delivering excellent customer service, we look forward to attracting even more people on to our greener, smarter services in the future.”

The Scottish Transport Awards 2015 brings together the transport community to recognise and celebrate industry achievements across Scotland.

David Middleton, Chief Executive, Transport Scotland, said: "The Scottish Transport Awards are recognition of the hard work and initiative being shown every day in Scotland. Transport Scotland, as the national transport agency for Scotland, recognises the importance of the projects and initiatives, large and small, showcased at these awards and commends the effort, teamwork and motivation they demonstrate.”

Stagecoach also played a vital part in the 2015 Ryder Cup, transporting 180,000 golf fans by bus to Gleneagles from three Park & Ride sites in Perth, Stirling and Kinross. The company was shortlisted for its efforts in the Transport Team/Partnership of the Year Award, while the winner of that category was the Ryder Cup Transport Planning Partnership, consisting of Transport Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council, Ryder Cup Europe and Police Scotland.
