16 Oct 2017

•           St Andrews bus depot aim to defend top depot award

•           Stagecoach East Scotland nominated for Top Shire Operator

•           Express City Connect network in the running for Sustained Marketing Excellence

Stagecoach East Scotland are finalists at the UK Bus Awards 2017 with a further 10 Stagecoach entries from across the UK also shortlisted.

The company has once again been shortlisted for three awards. Stagecoach has reached the shortlist for Top Shire Operator and will defend the title of top national depot once again for St Andrews depot. Within the marketing category, it was announced that the Express City Connect network is in the running for the Sustained Marketing Excellence award.

Stagecoach East Scotland carries almost 35 million passengers per year, has 1,300 employees and a fleet of over 460 vehicles. The company's consistent growth in passenger numbers, investment in both new, high quality vehicles and ticketing and route technology has caught the interest of the UK Bus awards panel nominating the Stagecoach East Scotland for Top Shire Operator.

St Andrews depot operates a fleet of 25 vehicles in the busy university town and runs local town services as well as routes across Fife and into Dundee.  The depot’s performance statistics and its reliable, efficient operations provided by team members from the local area impressed the judges   and got St Andrews depot on to the award shortlist, once again, after winning this award in the 2016 awards.

Stagecoach East Scotland’s Express City Connect network operates high-quality coach services across Fife and into Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow. Facilities such as leather seats, on board toilets, power sockets, air conditioning, free wifi and kids activity packs have helped make the services an attractive alternative to the car, achieving increased passenger numbers.

This continual investment and development in the Express City Connect network has meant that ongoing branding efforts and engaging marketing campaigns have taken place over recent years. Just last month, Stagecoach East Scotland announced investment of almost £2m into 6 brand new coaches for the Express City Connect network.

Paul Thomas, Managing Director, Stagecoach East Scotland said: "This is a great achievement , our employees work hard every year to meet the incredibly high standards the judges at the UK Bus awards set and to meet the expectations of our customers."

"I'm delighted to see our award nominations being spread over multiple categories this year. Our staff are dedicated to providing punctual, quality and friendly bus services and these nominations are a real testament to our employee commitment to these aims. Particularly in St Andrews where they already hold the accolade of top national depot."

"Due to the vast variety of customers using the Express City Connect network, our marketing department have the difficult job of recognising and targeting a range of bus users who can benefit from the Express routes available. It's great to see their hard work recognised on a national level."

Stagecoach nationally is in the running for 12 awards overall at the 2017 UK Bus Awards including Operator of the Year.

Winners are due to be announced at a ceremony in London next month where representatives from Stagecoach East Scotland will attend.
