Stagecoach commended in multiple award categories at this years Scottish Transport Awards

27 Jun 2024

  • Stagecoach secures special commendation in three categories including coveted Best Bus Service award
  • Nominated in categories such as “Excellence in Travel Information and Marketing” and “Contribution to Sustainable Transport”.
  • Awards celebrate industry achievements across Scotland

Stagecoach, the UK’s largest bus and coach operator, was recognised in three awards at this year's Scottish Transport Awards, hosted at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel on 20th June 2024.

The Scottish Transport Awards bring the transport community together to recognise and celebrate industry achievements across Scotland.

Despite not winning any awards on the night, Stagecoach received special commendations within three categories:

Excellence in Travel Information and Marketing for Stagecoach Scotland’s "Bussed It, Bossed It" youth campaign

Combatting the perception of public transport amongst younger bus users, Stagecoach’s Bussed it Bossed it campaign illustrated how easy, convenient and great value catching the bus is, resulting in an average increase in sales/usage of around 33% annually.

Best Bus Service for service JET747 between Fife and Edinburgh Airport

Now in its 18th year, JET747 carried over 250,000 passengers in 2023 and utilises bus priority measures to get travellers to Edinburgh Airport quickly and sustainably. A recent rebrand and targeted marketing campaign reached 3.2m individuals, resulting in an increase in passengers of 47% annually.

Frontline employee of the year for Colin Hunter from Stagecoach’s Dunfermline depot

Colin has worked with the business for over 20 years, where he not only drives but mentors new members of staff too. In November 2023, whilst undertaking route learning with a trainee driver, Colin spotted a lady attempting to climb over a wall at a railway bridge and quickly took action to help, alerting the police and ensuring her safety.

Stagecoach East Scotland also secured further nominations for “Contribution to Sustainable Transport” and “Transport Team / Partnership of the Year”.

Operating electric bus fleets within Dunfermline and Perth (as well as across Inverness, and services within Kilmarnock and Aberdeen), the local operations in East Scotland contribute to Stagecoach’s ambitious targets of operating a net emission UK bus fleet by 2025.

Here in East Scotland, a partnership between Stagecoach and the University of St Andrews has also saved staff and students over £1.2m since a ticket discount scheme was launched in late 2022.  The collaboration between bus operator and academic institution demonstrates how a collective approach to increasing bus use can have a real impact on modal shift, saving people money and reducing carbon emissions at the same time. The partnership facilitates 75% off bus fares for staff and students at the University and this is the second time it’s been shortlisted at industry awards.

Sarah Elliott, Commercial Director for Stagecoach East Scotland said “It was fantastic to attend the awards last week and see so many great transport teams and projects across Scotland be recognised. However, it was especially good to see our own staff and work be commended in three categories. Congratulations to all the winners and other nominees!”
