Stagecoach

From buses to bikes in aid of charity

01 Jan 2015

Bus drivers from Manchester and Merseyside have gone head-to-head in a bike race, in order to raise money for their respective charities of the year.

Staff and drivers from Stagecoach’s Manchester and Merseyside & South Lancashire operations battled it out in a sponsored bike ride, travelling from their own head office, along a 30 mile route to reach the other team’s city.

Stagecoach Manchester’s team boasted nineteen members from across the company’s head office and five depots, including winning team member, Brian Hayes, from Stockport, who completed the race in one hour 50 minutes.

The team from Stagecoach Manchester successfully raised £3,000 through the gruelling bike ride, for its charity of the year, Francis House, with Merseyside & South Lancashire raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Talking about the bike race, Stagecoach Manchester’s managing director, Christopher Bowles, said: “It is great to see a bit of friendly rivalry between the two operations, especially when both are raising money for very worthy causes.

“Both teams worked really hard, but I was particularly impressed with Brian’s efforts, especially as it meant Manchester came out victorious.

“The money raised by the team’s hard work will go towards helping children who really deserve it and we are proud to support Francis House as our charity of the year.”
