Stagecoach Manchester will shortly say goodbye to two of its oldest buses, as its last two Volvo B10M vehicles will be withdrawn from service following a farewell running day on Saturday 14th November.
For one day only, the two buses will run as ‘extras’ on Stagecoach Manchester’s existing 192 route from Hazel Grove to Manchester, the route on which the B10M first regularly appeared in Manchester.
Just weeks after Stagecoach Manchester announced Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention as its charity partner, the leading local bus operator will be donating all revenue taken on board the extra services to the Manchester based charity.
The B10M single decker was first seen in Manchester back in 1994 and has been used extensively in Greater Manchester over the last 21 years.
In line with Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations, which require all single decker buses to be fully accessible with low floor access from 1st January 2016, the buses will now be retired.
Stagecoach Manchester managing director, Christopher Bowles, said: “The B10M has a long history of reliable service for Stagecoach Manchester. Our continued investment in new buses, which meet and exceed the latest industry guidelines, means the B10M has been gradually phased out over the last few years, but it goes out on a high having given two decades of tireless service.
“We’re also pleased to donate all fares collected on board to Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, with this being the first of many fundraising opportunities to support the fight against breast cancer.”
Pam Glass, co-founder of Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, said: “We’re very grateful to Stagecoach Manchester for donating the collected fares to us on what will be a milestone day for those with a connection to the B10M buses.
“Funds raised by Stagecoach Manchester over the duration of our partnership will go towards our upcoming research projects, which span across four pillars; gene research, early detection and screening, preventative drugs and diet and lifestyle.”
Normal fares apply on the extra services and prepaid tickets will be accepted.
