Stagecoach Manchester takes on the tutu to launch Genesis partnership

MediaCityUK was coloured pink on Thursday (7 October) as Stagecoach Manchester and Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention celebrated the launch of their new partnership with a unique event to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

In line with Genesis’ own ‘Take on the Tutu’ challenge, a 26 metre long, four layered tutu decorated a Stagecoach Manchester bus, as the region’s leading local bus operator officially announced its new charity of the year, following an internal vote by staff members.
Stagecoach Manchester driver, Barry Duncan, showed off his own tutu to kick start his ‘Take on the Tutu’ challenge, which encourages fundraisers to don a tutu either at work, school, in the local community or while taking part in a sports event to raise money for the Manchester based charity. 
Genesis undertakes ground-breaking research into the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, a disease which 50,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with each year. Genesis’ vision is to create a breast cancer free future for the next generation. The charity has helped countless families understand and deal with their diagnosis since its formation in 1996.  
Talking about the new partnership, Stagecoach Manchester managing director, Christopher Bowles, said: “Every two years, Stagecoach Manchester staff vote to support a new charity and Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention has been chosen this time around, with the whole workforce already showing an overwhelming amount of support. 
“Breast cancer is a disease that unfortunately touches so many people each year and the positive impact this charity has in the local community is a key reason why we received so many votes for Genesis to become our charity partner. I know there’s a series of fundraising opportunities pencilled in which drivers and office workers alike are looking forward to.” 
Pam Glass, co-founder of Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, said: “As the country’s only charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, we rely solely on our supporters’ fundraising efforts to carry out our research, so partnerships like this one are extremely important to us.
“We’re thrilled and honoured that Stagecoach Manchester has selected us as their chosen charity and we’ve earmarked the initiative to go towards funding our upcoming research projects, which span across four pillars: gene research, early detection and screening, preventative drugs and diet and lifestyle.
“We’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to the team and look forward to working together over the next two years.”
Stagecoach Manchester’s partnership with Genesis comes after raising over £10,000 for its previous nominated charity, Francis House.
