19 Aug 2022

A Bus Driver from Partington in Manchester is proudly celebrating 55 years’ service with the region’s biggest bus operator.

74-year-old Ian Robertson began his career in 1965 aged just 17, working in the North- Western garage washing buses. A year later, he moved into his new role as a bus conductor before leaving his job for a short three weeks thinking he’d enjoy a new opportunity.

Ian swiftly returned to his post as a bus conductor for North-Western though (now Stagecoach Manchester) and has stayed put ever since. Ian has had many roles within the bus industry, from driving to instructing new drivers at the driving school which he did for 19 years. He currently works as a driver at Stagecoach Manchester.

Speaking on his career, Ian said: “Since I was a small boy, I have always loved buses, so a career in bus travel just made sense. It’s given me a good standard of living and I have also met a lot of very friendly people along the way. I have even worked alongside some family members which was a great experience.”

Lee Wasnidge, Managing Director of Stagecoach Manchester said: “55 years’ service is an incredible achievement! I want to extend a huge thank you to Ian from myself and the entire team at Stagecoach Manchester for his dedication and hard work spanning across five decades.”

Stagecoach Manchester is currently recruiting trainee bus drivers. More information can be found on the Stagecoach website.
