- Simplified system to help people make unlimited journeys across region with just one ticket
- Move complements new capped fares being introduced by Mayor
- New fares make it easier and cheaper for car users to avoid fuel rises and switch to the bus
Stagecoach Manchester has confirmed that new fares will be in place on its services from 4 September 2022 as part of the drive to make travel easier for customers across the region.
Under the new capped fares, single journeys for adults will cost no more than £2 for adults and children will pay no more than £1 for each trip. AnyBus day travelcards are also being reduced to £5 for adults and £2.50 for the junior travelcard.
This new lower price alongside the flexibility to make unlimited journeys with all bus operators makes the AnyBus day ticket the best value option for day travel for the vast majority of people who currently buy day tickets.
The new capped fares also make it easier and cheaper for people to switch to bus for one or two journeys a week saving them money on the high cost of fuel and helping to improve local air quality. Free travel is also still available to 16 to 18-year-olds in Greater Manchester using Our Pass.
Stagecoach also has a range of flexi day ticket bundles which will continue to offer great value unlimited journeys for the equivalent of less than £4.25* a day. For people who travel regularly our 7 day and longer term tickets are still available and provide flexible travel with us from just £2.50** a day.
With the introduction of capped fares and the option of Stagecoach flexi day ticket bundles, 9 out of 10 customers will either pay less for their bus fare or see the price of their travel frozen.
A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “We have consistently delivered some of the lowest ticket prices in the country and, with motoring costs accelerating, there has never been a better time to switch to the bus.
"Working with Transport for Greater Manchester, we are committed to keeping fares as low as possible for people in the region. That is despite significant increases in supply chain, energy and fuel costs which are affecting all sectors of the economy, and at a time when passenger numbers are 19% below pre-pandemic levels.
"We are also reinvesting fares in better pay for bus workers who work hard to keep our communities connected, as well as buying new greener vehicles, such as our fleet of more than 30 electric double decker buses that are helping to deliver cleaner air across Manchester.”
