Gurmail Sathi, former Apprentice, now Fleet Engineer has been selected as a finalist in the Engineer of the Year category
Two Stagecoach Manchester employees have been named as finalists in the 2023 routeone Awards, which recognise excellence in the coach and bus industry.
Gurmail Sathi, Fleet Engineer at the Sharston Depot, has been selected as a finalist in the Engineer of the Year, Large operator category, while Rebecca Rathore, Operations Director, has been named a finalist in the Manager of the Year, Large Operator category.
Manchester-local, Gurmail Sathi joined the Stagecoach Apprenticeship Programme in 2001, working his way up the ranks from the workshop floor into managerial positions.
Sathi has been recognised for setting a clear vision within the industry and focusing on preventative maintenance. He has also been praised for pushing forward improvements in fleet and facilities presentations.
Sathi plays an important role within the Stagecoach Apprentice programme, mentoring numerous apprentices and supporting in their recruitment.
Rebecca Rathore joined Stagecoach in July 2022 as Operations Director and has immediately become a key member of the leadership team with operational responsibility for the largest bus operation outside of London, including 1,800 operational colleagues, 700 buses, 96 million passenger journeys and 23.9 million miles of route.
The exciting news comes just weeks after Rebecca Rathore was awarded the Customer/Passenger Leader Award at the Everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards.
Rebecca was also named on the 2023 Northern Power Women’s Future List, which recognises leaders and change makers of the future and is currently leading a campaign to encourage more young women into engineering roles at Stagecoach Manchester.
Speaking of the news, Lee Wasnidge, Managing Director of Stagecoach Manchester said: “Here at Stagecoach Manchester, we couldn’t be prouder of Gurmail and Rebecca and we’re absolutely delighted to see their hard work and determination officially recognised at the routeone Awards.
“Since joining us a year ago, Rebecca has gone from strength to strength and this flurry of award wins really is testament to that. Gurmail first joined us as an apprentice over 20 years ago and has achieved so much since that time. His story stands as an inspiration to others and just goes to show how much you can achieve if you really set your mind to something.”
