04 Oct 2023

Vehicle safety and compliance are of major importance in the bus industry, so securing a successful MOT inspection first time is a top priority for bus operators nationwide.

Stagecoach Manchester are therefore proud to have achieved a 100% MOT Pass Rate for the second year running, covering 370 vehicles, at their Stockport Depot. This is the first time any commercial operation has achieved a 100% pass rate over a two-year period across the UK.

The team at Stockport Depot are responsible for keeping 150 buses on the road each day for customers travelling in and around Stockport and to other parts of Greater Manchester.

This achievement reflects Stagecoach’s commitment and internal processes to elevating its first-time MOT pass rate. It also marks the dedication of the engineering team at Stockport depot, and of technicians, Micheal Bones and Gary Keenan who, between them have nearly 60 years’ experience, and who make the final checks and ensure around three buses each week are in perfect condition to be MOT tested by the DVSA.

Dave Heptinstall, Engineering Director of Stagecoach Manchester, said: "Our customers rely on us to keep our buses on the road and to ensure they reach their destinations safely. Achieving a first-time MOT pass is of paramount importance to us, enabling us to meet our customers' needs while upholding safety and compliance standards. Consequently, MOT pass rates continue to be a top priority for Stagecoach.

“I extend my congratulations to the entire Stockport Depot engineering team. Preparing a bus for an MOT inspection is a collective effort, and this remarkable accomplishment is a testament to the outstanding dedication and teamwork we consistently see at Stockport Depot. Their achievement sets an inspiring benchmark for the entire industry, underscoring the importance of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement within the bus sector.”
