Primary school pupils in Rugby recently swapped their classroom for the bus when they were treated to a special visit from Stagecoach Midlands.
The reception class children from English Martyrs Catholic Primary School on the High Street have spent the last few weeks reading The Naughty Bus by Jan Oke.
And in the spirit of helping bring the bus theme to life, their teacher, Grant Bromage, contacted Stagecoach Midlands to see if they could surprise his class with their very own bus tour.
“Many of the children had never travelled on a bus before, so when we pulled up at the entrance in one of our buses and invited them to take a look around the inside and outside, they were really excited,” said Dale Burnes, Assistant Operations Manager for Stagecoach & Megabus Rugby, who carried out the visit with his colleague, Andrea Shaw.
Once they’d taken a look around the inside of the bus, the group of 17 youngsters were then invited on-board and taken on a trip around Rugby in which they were able to spot some of the town’s key landmarks, ranging from the police station to the train station.
Around an hour later, they were parked back up outside the school gate and invited to sit in the driver’s cab, so they could get a real feel for the bus - from all angles. And when the time came for them to depart, they were each presented with their own little Stagecoach goody bag to help mark the memorable occasion.
“As the main bus operator in Rugby, we really value the importance of giving back to the local community whenever we can, so we were only too happy to spend the morning at English Martyrs Catholic Primary School, adds Dale.
“The children were really impressed and excited about the bus visit – we thoroughly enjoyed it as much as they did too.”
Reception class teacher, Grant Bromage, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and were really excited to step on-board the bus. They had really enjoyed reading The Naughty Bus and the visit gave them first-hand experience of travelling on a bus.
“They were so happy to receive their gifts and haven’t stopped talking about it since! Thank you so much Stagecoach.”
