Let’s face it, once the kids have finished school for the summer, it can be hard to make sure that they’re entertained every day of the week. With countless summer activities to choose from though, the options for filling the time can be overwhelming.
So this summer, if you’re blessed with a rare glimpse of good weather, why not take the family to the beach? With plenty of beautiful options across the UK all you need to remember is your bucket and spade!
After winning the ‘England for Excellence Gold Award’ for best family resort, this seaside town is definitely up there with the best of them — somewhere you and the kids can unwind and enjoy some well-deserved time off.
This resort is situated between Morte Point and Baggy Point, giving you an amazing view of both rolling hills and never-ending coastline, withplenty of space for the kids to run around and play. The beach is renowned for its cleanliness, and last year won Trip Advisor’s Best Beachin Britain award.
Fancy a break from sunbathing and sandcastle building? There’s plenty of local activities to get involved in here too — for instance, why not involved with the local surfing scene? If you’re hungry after a long day, head down to one of the many traditional family pubs and enjoy a home cooked feast!
At Bamburgh, your children’s imaginations can run wild. The beach is overlooked by the magnificent Bamburgh Castle, which was once the royal seat of the Kings of Northumbria, and has stood on this stretch of coastline for 1,400 years! Once you’re there, you could explore the ruins of the castle for the true Viking experience, or discover the legends and myths of the Theft of Oswald’s Head, or the Laidley Wyrme & The Toad in The Keep.
During a clear day on these wild coastlines, see if the kids can spot Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands out in the distance. The coastline stretches for 3 miles, and if you’re feeling adventurous, why not see how far you can get? If you’re up for a stroll, Seahouses is only a couple of miles away and is a picturesque seaside town to spend the night.
Just three miles from the historic harbour and town centre of Weymouth, if the whole family is looking for a traditional seaside getaway, then this is the place to be.
From Punch & Judy shows to donkey rides, your kids will be entertained all day long with attractions that the whole family can enjoy, with Punch and Judy shows, donkey rides and crazy golf.
Weymouth doesn’t just accommodate the kids mind; into the evening, you’ll find that there are live music events playing great music. But before the kids go to bed, be sure to treat them to the summer fireworks displays that look out spectacularly onto the sea!
No definitive list would be complete without a trip to Blackpool. This classic seaside town has been entertaining us Brits since 1896.
For the thrill seekers, head down to the Pleasure Beach; one of Britain’s most famous theme parks! With all of the ingredients for the perfect weekend away with the kids, there’s thrill rides – childhood favourites – and also a classic seaside fare, so be sure to get your candy floss on the way round. With 125 rides to go on and enjoy, the kids won’t ever want to leave this never-ending theme park.
If your kids aren’t afraid of heights, take them to the top of The Blackpool Tower Eye and take in views that reach as far as the eye can see from a solid glass sky walk. Or, if the kids would prefer a more exotic view, then why not head to Blackpool Zoo? With lions, tigers, silver back gorillas and orangutans, there are animals from across the world all in one place.
