Nine employees from Stagecoach North East’s Teesside depot in Stockton have been recognised for their customer service skills over the past year, with a special nomination for bus driver Colin Hugill.
As part of the recent National Customer Service Week campaign, the local bus operator asked passengers to nominate their ‘Customer Service Star’ with prizes for the winner and nominees, and local resident Will Paterson was only too happy to oblige.
23-year old Will from Stockton, a regular Stagecoach passenger was on his way home from work when he saw the promotional poster on the bus.
“I normally sit at the front of the bus and I noticed the poster asking for nominations for Customer Service Stars. I was just coming home from work and I saw the bus driver helping the elderly passenger off the bus with shopping. So I sent in the nomination, as drivers probably get more complaints than compliments, and it’s a tough job, so I thought why not, as it is a nice way to acknowledge his helpfulness. I didn’t expect to win anything but I was delighted to receive a week’s free bus travel and a voucher and to meet Colin.”
Colin was over the moon to receive the nomination, especially as he was just going about his business and doing his job. He said: “It feels brilliant to have been selected and it is really nice to know that people out there do care. The job is all about people and so it is lovely to be recognised for making that extra special effort and going the extra mile for customers.”
Alongside Colin, eight other bus drivers were acknowledged for their services to customers at a special presentation.
Nathan Stanislawski, Operations Manager at Stagecoach North East’s depot in Stockton, said: “I would like to congratulate and thank Colin and the rest of our ‘Customer Service Stars’ for their efforts in ensuring that passengers enjoy travelling with us. We are committed to delivering good customer service and we are fortunate to have a dedicated team of employees who help us do just that.”
