City Sightseeing - hop on board the city tour and see the sights

04 Apr 2016

Visitors to Newcastle and Gateshead and those living in the city can now enjoy the sights and sounds of the vibrant north east as the City Sightseeing tour programme launches for 2016.

With spring and warmer weather now on its way, customers can plan their trip and enjoy all the sights that Newcastle and Gateshead have to offer on board the open-top Stagecoach buses.

Tickets are valid for 24-hours from the time of purchase, allowing a full day to explore the many attractions throughout the city, with highlights including the Quayside, with its lively bars and restaurants, plus the iconic Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the Baltic museum for art lovers, Sage Gateshead for culture, St James’ Park for sports fans and Eldon Square for shopping.

Tickets are £8 for an adult and £4 for a child aged 5-15 years, with a great value family ticket available. Bus passengers with a Stagecoach bus ticket valid for the planned day of travel can purchase a ticket for the City Sightseeing bus from the driver for a reduced price, £7 for adults and a 50 pence discount for children under 16. Stagecoach bus tickets must be valid on the day of travel on the City Sightseeing bus.

City Sightseeing tours are available daily from 20 March to 23 October (no service on Great North Run day, Sunday 11 September) and on Saturdays and Sundays from 23 October to 10 December. Tours start at 10:30 and leave at least every hour until 14:30.

Helen Martin, Marketing Manager for Stagecoach North East, said: “The City Sightseeing tour offers an excellent opportunity to sample the delights of Newcastle and Gateshead, to learn more about the history of the city from the onboard commentary or to simply admire the fantastic views that visitors flock to see every year.

“It makes a great day out and is a perfect way to show visiting friends and family what makes this city so special.”
