Introduction of new return tickets sees lower fares for Sunderland passengers

19 Jan 2017

Bus passengers in Sunderland will soon be able to travel for even less with the introduction of return fares from local communities in the south of the city.

From 15 January, local bus operator Stagecoach North East will be offering its customers in Silksworth, Farringdon and Doxford Park the opportunity to purchase return fares of £2.60, £3.20 and £3.50 respectively.

The lower priced return journeys will be brought in on bus services 12 and 13 and will provide cheaper and more convenient travel for customers from these areas, who previously would have purchased two single fares up to £2.35 each or a Dayrider travel ticket costing £3.95.

David Parker, Head of Commercial, Stagecoach North East, said: “We have chosen to introduce the option of lower priced return tickets for these specific areas to better understand the number of customers who may only be making return fares. We are always listening to our customers and believe that the introduction of a return ticket option will be well received.

“Sunderland has a growing population of residents, workers and visitors and we need to make sure that our bus services plays a part as an efficient, safe and popular way of getting around the city.”
