STAGECOACH NORTH SCOTLAND ANNOUNCE TIMETABLE REVISIONS FOR APRIL 2017

20 Feb 2017

Stagecoach North Scotland is inviting customers across the Highlands of Scotland to provide feedback on new bus timetable proposals planned to commence on 24th April 2017.

These proposals follow on from changes made in January where further feedback since those changes has lead to some further improvements being brought forward. Other changes are as a result of the now completed tender process carried out by Highland Council.

Proposed timetables for bus services in Inverness, Easter Ross, Black Isle, Sutherland, Caithness, Fort William and Skye are all available online now at stagecoachbus.com. The company is encouraging customers to review the proposals and share their thoughts, whether in support of the revisions, highlighting any concerns or sharing any other ideas customers may have on services offered.

Proposals include -

  • Improvements to bus connections in the Lochardil area of Inverness following customer feedback. Lochardil will be served by service 7 and the connection with Culduthel Road and the doctor surgery will be restored. As part of this revision service 6 will be withdrawn.
  • Additional buses on Sunday mornings between Culloden and Inverness Shopping Park to be introduced also as a result of customer feedback.
  • Revisions will be made to the routes of services 2 and 3 take in Westhill, Smithton and Culloden.
  • Brand new service 29 will be introduced providing links between Nigg and Tain Monday to Friday.
  • Summer journeys introduced on service X99 between Inverness and Thurso from 22nd May until 1 October 2017.
  • Some further minor timing revisions to improve reliability across the area.

A brand new service 919 will also be introduced from 24th April in partnership with Scottish Citylink. The new 919 will replace the current service 19 operating between Fort William and Inverness and will also see a cross-city connection introduced to allow customers to connect to Inverness Campus UHI.

Mark Whitelocks, Managing Director, Stagecoach North Scotland said: “Many of the changes that we made in January have seen encouraging results so far. We have received some further comments and have the opportunity to introduce some more improvements on 24th April as we adjust our business in light of the contract awards by Highlands Council.

"We are disappointed that in a number of cases despite investment in the business, support to the local communities and the wider value that we offer customers with megarider tickets being valid across our network a number of our bids to continue operating some services for Highland Council have proven to be unsuccessful.

"Following on from the success of our consultation in November we are seeking customer feedback ahead of the adjustments we'll be making to our network in the Highlands before services are registered. Customer comments do help us ensure that we have optimised departure times, routes and addressed as many of our customers wishes as possible. We will be grateful for customers to provide their comments before 3rd March."

The company is holding four consultation events throughout the Highlands, inviting customers to come along, to view the timetables and speak to local staff. Events are planned to take place in Inverness, Fort William, Thurso and Wick.
