Stagecoach in Oxfordshire announces over £5M worth of new buses for the county

21 May 2019

  • 21 new buses will replace the existing S1 and S2 between Carterton, Witney and Oxford
  • All buses will be fitted with latest Euro 6 engines reducing emissions
  • Fleet introduces new onboard customer facilities including USB charging points, audio and visual next stop bus announcements

Stagecoach in Oxfordshire has announced that 21 new buses, worth over £5 million, will launch this summer on the S1 and S2 routes, operating between Witney and Oxford.

The brand-new buses are being introduced as part of a £80m Stagecoach nationwide bus and coach investment and are planned to go into service from August 2019.

The 21 new MMC E400 double deck buses are built in the UK and will replace the current Stagecoach Gold fleet which were introduced 10 years ago.

Stagecoach Oxford managing director Chris Coleman said: “We are immensely proud of the service we operate between Witney and Oxford on the S1 and S2 routes. This was the first route to offer customers a Stagecoach Gold service in 2009 so we’re delighted that we’re following tradition and launching our new fleet with added customer facilities on the very same bus routes.

“This is a large investment for the county which enables us to deliver even cleaner, newer buses with improved customer facilities.  With the audio and visual next stop announcements on board we hope to help our customers navigate their journey more comfortably, particularly those customers who may be new to the area, visiting or customers that require a little more help with bus travel.”

Chris Coleman continues: “In the most recent Bus Passenger Satisfaction Survey carried out by independent watchdog Transport Focus reported that 94% of Stagecoach customers in Oxfordshire were satisfied with their Stagecoach experience. This is a huge accolade and one which we hope is cemented further by this huge investment.”
