Boxing Day bus bonanza for east Kent

09 Dec 2016

  • More Boxing Day buses than there have been for over 40 years
  • Services will run throughout the day connecting Canterbury with towns and villages across east Kent
  • New Boxing Day service linking Deal, Dover and Canterbury
  • Smartphone tickets available for ultra-convenience

More bus services will run on Boxing Day this year than there have been for over 40 years. Bus operator Stagecoach has published timetables for a whole host of services across east Kent on the day after Christmas Day.
Boxing Day Buses
Stagecoach says that nearly 10,000 people came out and used its buses on Boxing Day last year. They hope to tempt even more people to travel this year by expanding the number of services operating.

New for this year will be a special route 15X service running between Deal, Dover and Canterbury. The hourly service will join a further four bus routes linking the city with coastal towns across the region for the day.

Once again Boxing Day travellers will be able to enjoy ‘a touch of gold’ with an hourly service between Hythe, Folkestone and Canterbury on ‘Gold’ route 16. The popular ‘Triangle’ route linking Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay will also operate hourly, ferrying shoppers to and fro on the new WiFi equipped buses.

Thanet Loop buses will also be out in force on Boxing Day. Shoppers will be able to catch Loop buses every 20 minutes throughout the day. In addition, Stagecoach’s new WiFi enabled ‘Breeze’ buses will be running an hourly route 8 service between Broadstairs and Canterbury (through Margate).

Philip Norwell, managing director of Stagecoach South East said: “We recognise that many people don’t want to get the car out and drive on Boxing Day, but still want to go shopping or visit friends and relatives. Some people also need to get to work, so this year we’re expanding what’s on offer to give more people the opportunity to take the easy option and travel by bus.”

The company are expecting people to opt for its new mobile tickets this Christmas. Customers will benefit from the convenience of using the Stagecoach Bus App to buy and download day tickets to their smartphone without the need for cash on the bus. M-tickets can be bought and used instantly or purchased in advance.

Festive bus times and Boxing Day timetables are available to view online or by picking up a leaflet on the bus. They’re also available from the travel shop at Canterbury bus station.
