Damian Green marks Silver Jubilee

19 Sep 2018

To mark the silver anniversary of Stagecoach South East serving the communities of Kent, Damian Green, MP for Ashford, climbed aboard a specially liveried bus.

The double-decker was at Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce’s BIG breakfast, which was sponsored by Stagecoach South East as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations. Held at Eastwell Manor, the event welcomed more than 80 business leaders from across the county.

Stagecoach is celebrating 25 years since taking over the East Kent Road Car Company in 1993. Since then it has almost doubled its fleet to 459 buses, with its new vehicles offering the latest cleaner engine technology to provide greener travel.

Damian Green said: “A good bus service is essential both in urban and rural areas, and is often a lifeline for some people. I am glad that Stagecoach is keeping up levels of investment in new buses, to provide the services that people in Kent really need.”

Speaking at the event, Joanne Howe, Operations Director at Stagecoach South East, said: “Stagecoach has successfully served Kent over the last 25 years. This year will see us carry more than 43 million passengers and our fleet of buses covers more than 19 million miles.

“Thanks to the ongoing investment in energy efficient buses and by adopting new technologies, such as contactless payments and our mobile ticketing App, plus the hard work of our 1,300 staff, we have a business that is having a positive impact on the economic and social wellbeing of Kent and East Sussex.”

By persuading more people to use its bus services, Stagecoach is helping to improve air quality and reducing ever-growing levels of congestion in town centres across Kent.

To mark the anniversary, Stagecoach has put a silver liveried double-decker bus into service to operate out of Canterbury. Complete with WiFi and charging points, the bus welcomed guests to the breakfast event.
