Bonfire Night & firework displays in Kent & East Sussex

BonfireNightBlog Stepping foot outside to see the skies light up with fireworks and keeping warm whilst toasting marshmallows on an open fire is a major event in many people’s autumn calendar. Whether you intend on travelling to see the best display, or want to keep the family close to home, the region has an abundance of bonfire and firework displays confirmed for 2018. So if you feel like braving the cold, why not visit one of these spectacular Bonfire Night hot-spots, as well as events leading up to the main event...

 

East Kent

Ashford Rugby Club, Ashford

Ashford Rugby Club will be putting on a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display on Saturday 3rd November. There will also be a range of food stalls and outdoor bars! Gates open at 5pm with the huge fireworks display starting from 7:30pm.  

 

Buses to get you there and back:

The Rugby club is a short walk along Kinney’s Lane from the Bybrook Barn bus stop on Canterbury Road. Buses run from Ashford town centre and rail station about every 15 minutes up to 19:00 and then half hourly until 22:53. For full bus times use the Stagecoachbus.com journey planner.

 

Kingsnorth School, Ashford

Kingsnorth School will be offering an unforgettable display of fireworks, coupled with a delicious BBQ + loads of fun activities for the kids. This event will be taking place on Saturday 3 November, with all proceeds going towards the school! Tickets can be purchased at the School Office or on the gate, which opens at 5pm with fireworks starting at 6:30pm.

 

Buses to get there:

From Ashford there’s a route 2A bus to Kingsnorth that departs from the Rail Station at 16:54. From Tenterden (The Vine) there’s a route 2A bus to Kingsnorth at 17:05. You’ll need to alight the bus at the Queens Head bus stop and take a short walk along Church Hill to the school.

Buses to get home:

The last bus back to Ashford is the 2A at 20:23 from the stop adjacent the Queens Head on Ashford Road. The last bus back to Tenterden is at 19:17 from the stop opposite the Queens Head a bit further south on Ashford Road.

 

Tyler Hill, Canterbury

 

   

 

 

Tyler Hill has been hosting this well established event for well over 30 years, and this year’s event will be taking place on Saturday 3 November.  As well as the main firework display, there will be fairground rides, live music, a variety of eateries, tombola and hoopla stalls!

 

Buses to get you there and back:

There are frequent Uni1 buses to Darwin College, a short walk from the site. On the night Stagecoach will run some extra Uni1 buses from Canterbury Bus Station at 17:40, 18:10 and 18:40. Buses run back to Canterbury City Centre on route Uni2 every 30 minutes up to 23:21. On the night there will also be some extra Uni1 buses back from Darwin at 20:25, 20:55 and 21:25. The Spitfire Ground, Canterbury

Once again, the Spitfire Ground will host one of the biggest Firework Nights in Kent, taking place on Monday 5th  November from 5:30pm. The event will include a funfair, live music from Old Town Souls and much more! Gates will open at 5pm with the impressive fireworks display starting at 7:15pm.

Buses to get you there and back:

There's also a free shuttle bus operating from the New Dover Road Park & Ride site. Donations will be accepted for Pilgrims Hospices.

 

Thanet

Viking Bay Beach, Broadstairs

The Viking Bay Fireworks display will be taking place on Sunday 4th November.There will be children's funfair rides, hot & cold food at Victoria Gardens & the Bandstand Cafe, as well as entertainment at the Bandstand from 6pm before the magnificent firework display over the bay at 8pm. This is a free event. 

 

Buses to get you there and back:

The event is a short walk from Queens Road which is well served by Thanet Loop buses every 15 minutes up to about 19:30 and then half hourly until 22:50 for Margate and 23:47 for Ramsgate. For full bus times check the Stagecoachbus.com journey planner. 

 

Quex Park, Birchington

This year Quex Park will be hosting a Marvel themed bonfire and firework event, taking place on Saturday 3rd   November. In attendance will be some well-known characters including; Iron Man, Hawkeye, Thor and Captain America! All will be available for pictures in a specific meet and greet area. The event will also include a funfair, bars, food stalls and a gift and craft marquee. Gates open from 2pm with displays starting from 6pm.

 

Buses to get you there and back:

Stagecoach route 8/8A ‘Breeze’ buses serve Canterbury Road in Birchington every 15 minutes throughout the day and half hourly from about 7pm. The nearest bus stop to Quex Park is a ten to 15 minute walk along Park Avenue. For full bus times check the Stagecoachbus.com journey planner. 

 

East Sussex

The Pilot Field, Hastings

Hastings United FC presents a fun-filled family and community Fireworks Spectacular, taking place on Friday 23rd  November. Enjoy the fantastic display by Renegade Pyrotechnics, plus entertainment from fire-eaters and live music! Gates open at 6:30pm with fireworks starting from 7:30pm.

Tickets are available from: Hastings Utd Pilot Bar, Springfield Dental Care and the Flower Shop at Conquest Hospital.

Buses to get you there and back:
