Things to do in Thanet this autumn

From the dizzying heights of Margate’s amusement park to the sunny (ish) shores of Broadstairs, families up and down Kent are looking for something fun to kick-start their weekends. The question is where to go? With so many attractions and events taking place over this autumn period, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Dreamland: 

Why not redefine ‘a day out at the seaside’ by visiting Dreamland in Margate this autumn. Capture part of the site's unique history along the garden boardwalk that features antique menagerie cages from the 1800's. As well as enjoying the amusement parks restored vintage rides, adventurous street food, unique bars and eclectic programmes of live events, including: 

World of Dance Weekend: Saturday 22 - Sunday 23 September 2018 

Put on your dancing shoes and take part in a two day celebration of global social dance workshops at the ‘World of Dance Weekend’ hosted at Dreamland, Margate. Enjoy the likes of the Argentine Tango, Ballroom, Irish Dance and Salsa, plus many more. If you want to share your passion for music, dance and culture then this event is just the ticket!

Hunt & Darton Dog Show: Sunday 30 September 2018

Who let the dogs out, who, who...

Humans and furry friends alike are welcomed to Dreamland’s very own dog show! Bring or borrow a dog and get those tails wagging on the fast paced agility courses. There will be real prizes up for grabs in the following categories; best groomed, most comedic, agility and dog that looks most like its owner, this event is set to be a real treat. Loop buses run every 7 to 8 minutes throughout the day on Mondays to Saturdays and every 10 minutes on Sundays.  The last bus back to Cliftonville, Broadstairs and Dumpton Park is at 23:30 every day, and the last bus back to Westwood and Ramsgate is at 23:15 on Mondays to Thurdays and Sundays. On Friday and Saturday nights there is a bus at 00:50. Use the bus stops at Cecil Street in Margate town centre just a short five minute walk Dreamland main entrance.

 

Margate Winter Gardens:

As Kent’s largest banqueting venue, Margate Winter Gardens, offers all types of entertainment from concerts to theatre performances, and with Margate’s main town centre bus stop just a short walk away, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the venues diverse selection of upcoming events! 

 

Bye Bye Baby: Friday 21 September 2018

Take a musical journey through the sounds of one of the most successful bands of all time, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. This performance is more than your average tribute band, delivering a theatre show full of slick choreography and recognisable falsetto. Animals & Us: Running until Sunday 30 September 2018

Animals & Us is a major exhibition exploring artists’ reflections on the relationship between humans and other animals. Focusing on contemporary and 20th century artists and including historical artworks and artefacts', Animals & Us explores our lives and encounters with animals, and how these have been reflected in art.

Ramsgate

Ramsgate Costumed Walk – Sunday 16th September 2018

Take a guided walk around Ramsgate Harbour where you’ll be introduced to various historical characters on route and hear how they are connected to the surrounding area. On Friday and Saturday nights there is a bus at 00:25 and 01:25. Use the bus stops on Leopold Street or Harbour Parade.

 

Westwood Cross

Before looping back around to Margate, why not hop off and enjoy a relaxed family experience at Thanet’s shopping centre, Westwood Cross. With over 50 high street stores, cafes and restaurants to choose from there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Or if you want to relax with your feet up, why not head over to the on-site Cinema and chow down on a bucket of popcorn whilst watching the latest blockbuster. Ah retail therapy never sounded so good!

loopThere are frequent buses to and from Westwood Cross serving the bus hub on the Margate Road side of the shopping centre.

The number 8 bus from Canterbury, Birchington and Westgate runs every 30 minutes throughout the day on Mondays to Saturdays and hourly on Sundays. The last bus back to Canterbury is at 18:23 on Mondays to Saturdays and 17:28 on Sundays.

The Thanet Loop bus runs every 7 to 8 minutes throughout the day on Mondays to Saturdays and every 10 minutes on Sundays, serving all major towns around Thanet. Loop buses operate late into the evening.
