Stagecoach South West today confirmed that it will be running Boxing Day buses in Plymouth – the first time this has happened since the late 1970s.
Special timetables will be in place for route 1 (connecting Plymouth, Derriford Hospital and Tavistock) and routes 2/2A (serving Mount Batten, Plymstock, Milehouse, St Budeaux and Saltash). Buses will run hourly between Tavistock and Plymouth, with the first service leaving Tavistock at 9am and the last service leaving Plymouth at 6pm. Buses on the 2/2A will run up to every half hour across the day, with last services from the city centre departing late afternoon.
Bob Dennison, Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, said: “I am delighted to be able to announce these Boxing Day services for our new Plymouth passengers. We felt it was important to bring a Boxing Day service back to encourage people to use public transport over the festive period and to make the city more accessible for people during the holidays.”
Councillor Brian Vincent, Plymouth City Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene said: “Anything that helps people get around over the holiday period is great and this will be particularly welcome news for shoppers keen to get their hands on those sale bargains.”
Stagecoach will be operating special timetables right across the holiday period, with services finishing early on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. There will be no buses operating on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. For full details on Boxing Day buses and all other holiday services customers can pick up a holiday leaflet from the National Express Travelshop at Bretonside or plan their journeys and download all holiday service information, including Boxing Day timetables, from www.stagecoachbus.com.
