Stagecoach announce major changes to Torbay bus network

26 Oct 2016

  • Changes to Torbay network effective from 28 November 2016
  • 32 to benefit from doubled frequency between the Strand and Torbay Hospital
  • New tourist season service planned for St Marychurch in spring 2017
  • Additional journeys on 23 to meet South Devon College needs
  • Changes to 13 and local schools services also announced

Stagecoach South West has announced that, from 28 November 2016, it will be making a number of changes to its Torbay bus services, improving frequency and connectivity over a core part of its network.

The 32 service, which connects Torquay with Chelston, Shiphay, the Hospital and the Willows, sees its Monday to Saturday daytime frequency double to every 10 minutes between Torquay and Torbay Hospital. The buses on the route will also change to single decks that are more suited to the local roads and will help speed up journey times.

Over the winter the 32 will not run between Torquay Harbourside and St Marychurch, with the Hop22 providing a suitable frequency for this period, including additional early morning and evening journeys to maintain service levels at key times of the day.

For spring 2017, a new service is being planned to restore the 10-minute frequency from St Marychurch to Torquay town centre to meet the demands of the main tourist season.

The 23 service will have more journeys earlier in the afternoon to address the movements of South Devon College students and a new schools service, the 28; will combine the current 26 and 27 timetable.

Following the end of funding from Devon and Torbay Councils, a reduced timetable will be introduced on route 13. From Monday to Friday, it will run up to every two hours between Newton Abbot and Brixham with extra college journeys in the morning and afternoon.

New timetables will be available online shortly at www.stagecoachbus.com and in print from the usual outlets.
