Sci-Fi extravaganza returns for Torbay Children’s Week

Stagecoach is set to once again sponsor the popular Sci-Fi day at Torbay’s Children's Week, taking place from Monday 19 to Saturday 24 August.

All things Sci-Fi will be celebrated on Tuesday 20 August, as Sci-fi day returns to Paignton Green.

The day will showcase an impressive range of cars and costumes from popular films including Transformers, Batman, Dumb and Dumber, The Flintstone, Fast and Furious, Disney Pixar’s Cars and many more.

Visitors can expect to come across Darth Vader, the Star Wars Storm Troopers, Iron Man, RoboCop, Batman, Spiderman, Captain Jack Sparrow and chimps from Planet of the Apes, provided by look-alikes company UK Garrison.

Stagecoach’s association goes far beyond sponsorship, with employee and Sci-Fi enthusiast, Dave Hall dedicating much of his spare time to the event’s organisation.

Dave will be attending the day to show off some of his collection of replica movie cars and costumes. Dave said: “I love arranging this event, it is great to see members of the public's excitement as they spot cars and characters they recognise from their favourite films. I’d like to say a big thank you to to Stagecoach South West for once again sponsoring the day.”

Karen Hodder, Commercial Director at Stagecoach South West, said: “I’m delighted that Stagecoach South West will once again be sponsoring Sci-Fi day, as part of Children’s Week. We’ll be bringing along one of our buses and the family-favourite mascot, Gary the Rabbit, to give out goodies for visitors.”

Paul Northey, Joint Chairman of Children’s Week Torbay, said: “We’re really looking forward to Sci-Fi day. Torbay Children’s Week is the longest running event of its kind in the UK and Sci-Fi day is one of the most popular days of the week. We’re really pleased that Stagecoach South West will once again be sponsoring the event, as it enables us to continue this great tradition.”

The day long Sci-Fi event, which takes place at Palace Avenue Gardens in Paignton on Tuesday 20 August, is just one among a number of events being held during Children’s Week, including ‘Get Creative Day’, ‘Sports Day’ and many more.
