Today, Stagecoach will celebrate the first birthday of the highly popular and successful Stagecoach Gold bus service.
Route 51, known as, Selsey Gold launched over 12 months ago and is part of the Stagecoach Gold brand that delivers 12 Gold Bus services across the UK. The local brand has been a great success and passenger figures have continued to increase since it was first introduced.
Selsey Gold offers residents in Sidlesham, Hunston, and Selsey valuable public transport and transports passengers to the heart of the city. The route not only offers free WiFi and luxury, upholstered seats but also runs 7 days a week up to every 15mins, with buses running until 11.41pm Monday to Friday.
The 12km bus route challenges local residents to give up lone car travel and try a less stressful, greener and more cost effective alternative. Selsey Gold offers commuter travel for an average of £4.30 per day (when you buy a 7-day megarider) and little over £3 for more frequent travellers – less than what many pay to just park.
Stagecoach Gold is the brain child of Chief Executive Sir Brian Souter who wanted a product that rewarded loyal customers and areas with high patronage. Research shows that key features such as clean vehicles, friendly drivers, comfortable seats and pleasant surroundings greatly affect customer journey satisfaction.

A celebration of the bus service’s birthday will take place on Selsey High Street today, where residents and holiday-makers will be offered a golden incentive for trialling the service.
All the Stagecoach Gold buses are fitted with luxury Italian-designed Lazzarini Transito high back seats, finished in bold blue with complementary cream piping. All drivers are kitted out in a uniform, specially designed to match the first class interiors. To create the high standards of service which the Gold service embodies, all drivers are trained and tested through a gold customer service development programme.
The buses are fitted with Euro 5 specification engines, designed to help cut exhaust gas emissions, making each journey greener.
