Stagecoach welcomes more new buses to its Basingstoke fleet. The latest additions are unique, being the first in a new breed of eco-friendly buses of which few reside outside London. Acquired especially for the ever-popular Centre Shuttle, the new buses boast more seats and Wi-Fi helping to increase passenger comfort.
“We’re delighted to be the first demonstrating these great British-built buses,” says Andrew Dyer, Managing Director of Stagecoach South, “they’re not only better for the environment, our passengers and the residents of Basingstoke, but they’re a boost to the local economy too.”
The vehicles form part of Stagecoach’s record £100m order for new buses this year. The new British built Enviro 200 boasts the latest Euro6 specification engine which emits fewer pollutants than ever before. Alexander Dennis Limited builds new buses in Guildford and across several plants in the UK.
The borough council’s Cabinet Member for Partnerships Cllr Cathy Osselton said: “I’m delighted that the pink Centre Shuttle bus is going greener! With the new contract we wanted to continue to lead by example and show our commitment to the environment by ensuring that they meet the very latest emissions legislation. Stagecoach has taken up the challenge and is introducing these eco-friendly buses just for the shuttle bus. This is the first time buses of this kind have been used in the south of England outside London, supporting climate change initiatives in the borough.”
The vehicles are now in circulation so you can try them out for yourself. For any enquiries about timetables and fares customers can visit the Stagecoach website: www.stagecoachbus.com/south or find them on twitter @stagecoachsouth.
